To erase race from our recognition – watching the movie ‘crash’

 

 

     Since the slavery of black people, and increasing population of immigrants, the race problem had been a main issue of the ‘cultural furnace’ America. Now the white people take their proportion of American population for just 59%, and the rest of are black, or Hispanic and others. Considering these circumstances, it is not rare anymore that they have conflicts with different races in their daily life. But still, most of the conflicts are considered as a race problem and because of that, the problems get bigger and deepen. The movie ‘crash’ suggests some crashes between different races. From the cases, we notice that we have to change our approach of dealing the race things. To exclude the race from our recognition.  

 

     There was a murder case a white cop killing a black cop. It was directly seemed as a race problem in the first look. But the truth was, the black cop was a drug dealer, and the white cop was a drug squad. It was the black cop started to fire a gun and maybe it was because of his misunderstanding the white cop was chasing him. Their race hadn’t give a cause of this case but for the benefit of the district attorney, Rick, who was preparing to be a candidate, the case transformed as a racism murder. Rick’s decision was made because of black people’s care of their race. If he treated this case with honesty, black people would have repulsion toward him. However, his decision may have a good result for him, it was a decision that producing an unfair victim and raising a black community’s hostility towards white people. Truth is veiled and conflicts get deepen.

 

     In the movie, Anthony, the very stereotypical character of black appears. He hates white and blame white people for everything. According to him, hip-hop music was made by white to shut down black people’s assertion toward white people, and the purpose of bus’s big windows were to observe colored people riding a bus. He has blind hate toward white people. Because of that, he feels no guilty of his hijacking cars of white people which is actually a very serious crime.

 

     A police officer Ryan is a character that showed as a racist. In his work hour, Ryan encounter a woman in a car accident, and she was the woman that he had insulted and committed sexual harassment last night. For his duty as a policeman, saving her from the exploding car, he feels deep disturbance in his mind. From his recognition so far, the woman was black, who deserves such indignity things, but after excluding the distinction of race, he saw was a one citizen needed in help that he had to protect. He realizes belatedly, what he did last night, was a very wrong thing to do.

 

  The movie showing various daily life of different kind of races and conflict between them occurred during just 36 hours in L.A, ‘crash’ however, can take a controversy because It also insists that colored people can be an assailant of racism like Anthony’s case. But still, it is a fine movie that pinching the possible ironical occasions occurred by considering things as a race problem. And through the cases, the movie ‘crash’ tells us that we should look the human nature itself, not through the bias from our appearance.
